has Himself purchased me, and made me His slave. ||6||

In plain words

The one who gave me my very life also, in a way, chose me as their own.

They took me in fully, the way you'd take in someone you'd never let go of.

To belong completely to something good is to be cherished, never let go.
The deeper layer

This one says that to belong to the Guru is to be cherished and never let go.

Jin gur mo ka-o deenaa jee-o — "the Guru who gave me my soul." Jee-o means soul, life itself.

Aapunaa daasraa aapay mul lee-o — "Himself bought me and made me His own servant." This is an old way of saying complete belonging. Here it means being chosen and taken in fully.

Think of a family that adopts a child. The child is not owned. The child is wanted, chosen and loved for good.

That is the teaching: to belong wholly to the guidance is to be cherished, not owned.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to know someone has fully claimed you as theirs?
