Good Guidance Can Carry Any Weight You Bring

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਭੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥਾ ॥
kal kalays bhai bharam dukh laathaa.
My troubles, conflicts, fears, doubts and pains have been dispelled;
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਰਾਥਾ ॥੮॥੯॥
kaho naanak mayraa gur samraathaa. ||8||9||
says Nanak, my Guru is All-powerful. ||8||9||

In plain words

My worries, my quarrels, my fears, my confusion, my aches — all of it lifted and eased. My guidance, I can honestly say, can carry anything.

Good guidance can carry any weight you bring to it — worry, fear, or ache.
The deeper layer

The song ends by saying the Guru can carry any weight we bring.

A whole bundle of troubles is named. Kal kalays means strife, quarrels. Bhai is fear. Bharam is doubt. Dukh is pain. All of it is laathaa, lifted off.

Kaho naanak mayraa gur samraathaa — "says Nanak, my Guru is all-powerful." Samraathaa means able to do anything. The guidance is strong enough for whatever weighs on you.

Think of a backpack stuffed with heavy books. Someone strong takes it off your shoulders, and you can stand up straight.

Nanak's name seals a song built all the way through on humble, happy service.

A Question to Sit With

What worry would you most like to set down and hand to something bigger than you?
