Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, join the Sangat, the Holy Congregation. ||1||

In plain words

Set down your ego — that tight sense of being a separate, most-important self — and rest instead in the wisdom of the teaching. Those drawn to gather in good company find their hearts were always leaning that way.

Set down the need to be separate and most-important, and lean into good company.
The deeper layer

Let go of the me-first self, lean on the Guru's wisdom, and join good company.

Taj ha-umai — let go of haumai, the ego, the feeling of being a separate, most-important self. Gur gi-aan bhajo — rest in gur gi-aan, the wisdom of the Guru's teaching. Mil sangat — join the sangat, the gathering of people who remember the One together.

Dhur karam likhi-o means "written from the very start." It says those who join were meant to. It can be understood gently, as a heart that was always leaning that way. It is less a fixed fate than a deep pull toward good company. Think of a sunflower turning toward the sun. It does not decide to each morning. The pull is already in it.

A Question to Sit With

What good group or friendship do you feel naturally drawn toward?
