Love and Sweet Words Rejoin a Heart Cut Off

ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਅੜੀ ਜੀਉ ਕਵਣੁ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥

pir chhodi-arhee jee-o kavan milaavai.

She is separated from her Husband Lord - who can unite her with Him?

ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥

ras paraym milee jee-o sabad suhaavai.

Tasting His Love, she meets Him, through the Beautiful Word of His Shabad.

ਸਬਦੇ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਦੀਪਕ ਦੇਹ ਉਜਾਰੈ ॥

sabday suhaavai taa pat paavai deepak dayh ujaarai.

Adorned with the Shabad, she obtains her Husband, and her body is illuminated with the lamp of spiritual wisdom.

ਸੁਣਿ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੈ ॥

sun sakhee sahaylee saach suhaylee saachay kay gun saarai.

Listen, O my friends and companions - she who is at peace dwells upon the True Lord and His True Praises.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਾ ਪਿਰਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਬਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

satgur maylee taa pir raavee bigsee amrit banee.

Meeting the True Guru, she is ravished and enjoyed by her Husband Lord; she blossoms forth with the Ambrosial Word of His Bani.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਜਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥੨॥

naanak saa Dhan taa pir raavay jaa tis kai man bhaanee. ||2||

O Nanak, the Husband Lord enjoys His bride when she is pleasing to His Mind. ||2||

In plain words

When a heart feels cut off from its love, who can bring them back together? It happens through the sweetness of love itself, when the Word makes everything beautiful. Adorned by that Word, the heart finds its worth, and a lamp lights up the whole self. Listen, friends: the one at peace dwells on what is real and treasures its goodness. Meeting the true teaching, the heart is filled with joy and blossoms with words sweet as nectar.

Love and beautiful words can bring back together a heart that felt cut off.

Stanza ||2||. Pir chhodi-arhee ... kavan milaavai — who reunites the separated? The answer: ras praym ... sabad suhaavai — the sweetness of love, the beautifying Word. Deepak dayh ujaarai — a lamp lights the body/self. Bigsee amrit banee — blossoming with nectar-speech. The reunion is worked by love and the Word, not by force.
