Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The whole night of a life becomes blessed and glad when the heart turns toward the One. Serving the teaching with love, it empties out its selfishness. Emptying that out and singing the One's goodness, it falls in love, day and night. Listen, friends of the soul: melt into the Word of the teaching. Treasure the One's goodness, and you become dear to the Beloved, wearing the Name as your truest jewelry. The soul who wears the Name around its neck is loved through and through.
Stanza ||2||. Dhan rain suhaylrhee-ay — the "night" (lifetime) becomes joyful. Vichahu aap gavaa-ay — selfishness (aap, haumai) is emptied out. Naamay dharee pi-aaro — love placed in the Name. The lovely closing image: raam naam gal haaro — the Name worn as a necklace, the truest ornament (echoing Todee Shabad 30, "wears the Lord as a necklace").
If you could 'wear' one good quality like jewelry every day, what would it be?
