In plain words

If everything I ever did had to be tallied and weighed, I would never come out even — I slip and stumble again and again, every moment. That is just being human.

So I do not stand on my record. Instead Nanak turns toward the One who forgives, and simply asks: lift me across. And that request is never turned away — mercy is always there for the reaching.

No one comes out even on the ledger — but the One who forgives is always reaching to carry you across.
The deeper layer

No one comes out even on the ledger, and the One who forgives carries you across.

Laykhai kateh na chhootee-ai — by accounting no one comes clear — and the ledger sets the stage for grace. Khin khin bhoolanhaar — slipping every moment — is simply being human. The pivot is bakhsanhaar bakhas lai... paar utaar — the Forgiver forgives and carries across: mercy always available, received as a gift. The heart stops standing on its record and holds out empty hands to grace.

A Question to Sit With

When you make a mistake, is it easier to be hard on yourself, or to simply ask for a fresh start?
