Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
After drifting a long, long way and finding only ache in it, everything changes when you meet the holy and let the True Guru's word settle into you. The old troubles simply dissolve.
Hold onto patience, gather what is true, and taste the sweetness of the Naam. When the One turns kind toward you, peace and joy and deep rest arrive together. Your ship of trade comes safely home, richly full — and you walk back through your own door with honor. The Guru steadies you with deep comfort, and the One comes to meet you. Everything, before and after, is the One's own doing — so, Nanak says, praise the One who lives inside every heart.
Meet the holy, hold patience, taste the Naam, and come home with honor.
This Khakha Pauri is about homecoming and profit. Khayd mitay saadhoo milat — troubles dissolve on meeting the holy, and satgur bachan samaa-ay, you merge in the True Guru's word. Khimaa gahee — holding patience; khaa-i-o amrit naam, tasting the sweetness of the Naam. The merchant image khayp nibaahee bahut laabh... ghar aa-ay pativant — the cargo comes home richly, you return with honor — is warm and hopeful. The close, aapan kee-aa karahi aap... rahi-aa biaap — everything is the One's own doing, present in every heart — turns into praise.
What does it feel like to finally arrive somewhere good after a long, tiring stretch?
