Love the Name and Touch What Never Ends

You can try all sorts of things, but you still cannot remain here, my friend.

But you shall live forevermore, O Nanak, if you vibrate and love the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

In plain words

You can try every trick there is, but you can’t make yourself stay here forever, friend — that was never how it works.

And yet, Nanak says, there is a way to live on: love the Name, let it sing inside you, keep the One close — and something in you lives beyond the reach of endings.

You can’t make yourself stay here forever — but love the Name, and something in you touches what never ends.
The deeper layer

Life is short, and that truth turns into hope. Rehan... naahee — plainly, no scheme keeps you here forever; the honesty is kind. Then the turn: jeevat rahahu — "you shall live forevermore" — jap har... sanbandh, if you love and vibrate the Name. A paradox: you cannot make the body stay, but by keeping the One close you touch something that doesn't end — something in you lives beyond the reach of endings, the Naam as what the soul carries forward. The impossible wish (stay here) gives way to the lasting gift (be rooted in what can't be lost).

A Question to Sit With

What is something about a person you think lives on, even when they’re no longer around?
