Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The ones whose hearts and lives are full of the Name never sink into the dark — the Name holds them up.
Those who turn toward the Guru and hold the treasure of the Naam are not poisoned by the world's glitter and grasping. No door closes on the one the Guru has handed the Naam to.
Nanak says: they are filled to the brim with the sweetness of the One, the deepest of treasures — and within them a wordless, unending music quietly plays.
When the Naam fills your mind and body, you are held up and welcomed.
Nanna is the "the Naam holds you up" Pauri. Narak pareh tay naahee jaa kai man tan naam basaahee — those whose mind and body hold the Naam do not fall; narak, hell, here means sinking into the dark, and the Naam holds them up. Bikh maa-i-aa, the poison of Maya, is the world's glitter and grasping. In naam mantar gur deeno the Guru gives the Naam, and nannaakaar na, they are not turned away: no door closes on them. The close, anhad tooray, is the unstruck celestial melody, a wordless, unending music playing within — a lovely, mysterious image to wonder at.
Can you imagine a kind of music that plays inside you, that no one else can hear — what might it feel like?
