O Nanak, the mind becomes contented, enshrining love for the One Lord. ||7||

In plain words

In the gathering of good-hearted people, tell what is beautiful about the One, and speak the truth — but speak it with love, not sharpness.

Do this, and a restless heart grows quiet and content, settled on the One.

Speak truth, but speak it with love — and a restless heart settles into contentment.
The deeper layer

A Shalok on the texture of good company. Sant mandal is the circle of seekers; there you har jas katheh (speak the One's praise) and boleh sat subhaaay — "speak truth with a loving nature." That last phrase is the quiet gem: truth and gentleness together, not truth as a weapon. It rhymes with the note that suniai (honest listening) includes hearing hard things — but here the emphasis is on saying them kindly. The reward is santokh — contentment, a mind at rest — reached by aykas si-o liv laaay, fixing love on the One.

A Question to Sit With

Can you think of a time someone told you something true in a kind way — and how it landed differently than a harsh version would have?
