Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are entirely Yourself — the formless One, unstained, the true sovereign of all.
Those who hold You in mind with a single, settled heart find every ache lifted away.
There is no one who is Your equal, no one I could set beside You to compare.
You alone are a Giver as great as Yourself — pure, real, and dear to my mind.
My true Keeper, Your Name is the truest thing there is.
The One has no shape and no equal, and is the greatest Giver of all.
The One is called nirankaar, the One with no form. The One has no shape to picture. So there is nothing to measure the One against.
Tayraa sareek ko naahee means "You have no equal." That is not bragging about power. It says the One is one of a kind. You cannot line the One up next to anything else, because everything else already comes from the One. Think of the sun and its sunbeams. You would not compare a sunbeam to the sun. It is part of it.
The verse also says the Giver never stops giving: tudh jayvad daataa toohai, "the only Giver as great as You is You."
And what happens to the one who holds the One ik man, with a single, settled mind? The gift is gentle: sabh dukh gavaaiaa, every ache is lifted away.
Some things can't be compared to anything else. Can you think of one? What makes it one of a kind?
