The One made the earth, and the One made the sky.
The One created the living beings in between, and the One places food in every mouth.
The One flows through everything, the treasure of all that is good.
Nanak says: hold the Name in mind, and every mistake you have made is quietly cleared away.
A luminous little Shalok about a Giver who never stops giving. Mukh aapay day-ay giraas — "the One Himself puts the mouthful in the mouth" — is the "Giver keeps giving" theme in its most tender form: the same power that made the sky also feeds each tiny creature, personally. There is no gap between the vast (earth, sky) and the intimate (the food in your mouth) — both flow from the one Source, sabh aapay aap varatdaa, "flowing through everything." The close, naam dhi-aa-ay... sabh kilvikh katay — "hold the Name, and mistakes are cut away" — makes simran a natural clearing, never anxious self-scrubbing, the way still water lets sediment settle.
Look at one small thing that keeps you alive today — food, water, air. Where does it come from?
