Those who forsake the Lord, are the most evil people; they shall fall into the horrible pit of hell. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Take my hand, my Beloved — I will never let go of You.

To turn away from the One is its own loss: a cold, closed way of living that shuts a heart off from warmth.

Hold on to what's true and it holds you back — letting go just leaves a heart cold and closed.
The deeper layer

First, a child reaching up: jay kar gaheh pi-aarrhay — "take hold of my hand, Beloved" — tudh na chhodaa mool, "I will never let You go." It is the flip side of the robe-hem image: the trust of a small hand held in a large one. Then dojak kai sool, "the pit of hell" — and under that frightening image, a natural consequence: to let go of the One is a cold, closed way to live — a heart shut off from its own warmth. The loss is real: it is the loss of light.

A Question to Sit With

When has holding someone's hand — in person or just in your heart — made a scary thing feel manageable?
