In plain words

Kabir found the One through simple, wholehearted devotion. Not through cleverness, not through performance. With innocent, trusting love — the plain love of a child — the Beloved is met.

The One is met not by being clever but by loving with a simple, trusting, childlike heart.
The deeper layer

The One is met by simple, trusting love.

This is Kabir's closing line. Kaho kabeer bhagat kar paa-i-aa — says Kabir, the One is found through bhagat, loving devotion. Bholay bhaa-ay milay raghuraa-i-aa — through innocent love, the Lord is met. Bholay comes from bholaa: simple, honest, without tricks, like a child. Raghuraa-i-aa is a name for the One.

The shabad has cleared away cleverness. It has cleared away ritual that feeds the ego. What is left is the gentlest thing of all: plain, uncomplicated love. Think of a small child running to hug a parent at the school gate. No plan, no speech, just love. The One meets that kind of love without conditions. That is the whole secret.

A Question to Sit With

When have you loved something in a simple, whole-hearted way, without overthinking it?
