How can it be that one person counts as "high" and another as "low"? We are all made of the very same stuff — the same blood runs in every one of us. There is no finer human and no lesser human. There is just human.
We are all made of the very same stuff.
Tum kat braahman ham kat sood — how are you a Brahmin, and I a sood? A sood (Shudra) was a family ranked lowest in the caste system. Ham kat lohoo tum kat doodh — is it that I am made of blood, and you of milk?
Kabir uses the human body itself to show that caste has no ground to stand on. Everyone is made of the same flesh and blood.
Kabir says it plainly, with its full force. Think of scraping your knee. Anyone's knee bleeds the same red. The blood of every person is the same. So there is no higher human and no lower human. There is just human.
If everyone is made of the same stuff, what does that mean about how we should treat each other?
