Turn Toward What Stays, Not the Passing Busyness

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
kahat kabeer chayt ray anDhaa.
Says Kabir, remember Him, you blind fool!
ਸਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੬॥੧੬॥
sat raam jhoothaa sabh DhanDhaa. ||6||16||
The Lord is True; all worldly affairs are false. ||6||16||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Wake up and remember, dear heart — you have been sleeping. The One is real and lasting; the endless busyness of the world comes and goes. Turn toward what stays.

The One is the lasting thing; the world's endless busyness is the passing thing — turn toward what stays.
The deeper layer

Wake up and turn toward what lasts, not toward the busyness that passes.

This is Kabir's closing call. Kahat kabeer chayt ray andhaa — says Kabir, remember, O blind one. The words are sharp. But Kabir is waking up his own heart, the way you might say "come on, wake up!" to yourself. It is a tender nudge, not an insult.

Sat raam jhoothaa sabh dhandhaa — the One is true; all the busyness is false. Sat, or Sach, means real and lasting. Jhooth means passing, not lasting. Dhandhaa is all our running around.

Think of a busy week of homework, games, and chores. It rushes by and is soon forgotten. The One is what stays. That is what Sach means.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life feels lasting, and what feels like passing busyness?
