When the Name Settles, the World Smells Sweeter

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥

In His Mercy, He implants the Naam within us;

har har baas suganDh basaa-ee. ||5||
inhale deeply the sweet aroma and fragrance of the Lord, Har, Har. ||5||

In plain words

In great kindness, the One plants the Name deep inside you.

Then all around you is a sweetness, like breathing in the fragrance of something wonderful.

When the Name settles inside you, the whole world begins to smell sweeter.
The deeper layer

When the One plants the Name inside you, life takes on a sweet smell.

Kirpaa kar kai naam darirhaa-ee — in kindness, the One plants the Name firmly inside. Kirpaa is grace, kindness given freely. It is received, not earned.

Har har baas sugandh basaa-ee — breathe in the sweet scent of the One. The Name is not only something to think about. It is something you can sense and enjoy.

Think of walking into a kitchen where fresh bread is baking. You did not do anything. The good smell simply fills you. Grace is like that. It is always here.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt a quiet sweetness settle over an ordinary moment?
