Knowing Your Own Self Quiets a Churning Mind

tan meh hotee kot upaaDh.
My body was afflicted with millions of diseases.
ulat bha-ee sukh sahj samaaDh.
They have been transformed into the peaceful, tranquil concentration of Samaadhi.
aap pachhaanai aapai aap.
When someone understands his own self,
rog na bi-aapai teenou taap. ||2||
he no longer suffers from illness and the three fevers. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My mind used to churn with a thousand troubles. Now that same churning has settled into deep, quiet calm. When you truly understand your own self, the fevers of worry lose their grip on you.

Knowing your own self is the medicine that quiets a churning mind.
The deeper layer

"Millions of diseases" of the restless mind turn into sukh sahj samaadh — peaceful, natural absorption. The "three fevers" (a classical image for the ailments of body, mind, and spirit) are rendered simply as "fevers of worry." Self-knowledge — aap pachhaanai — is the medicine.

A Question to Sit With

When your mind is churning, what helps you understand what is really going on inside?
