Carry This Longing and the Beloved Draws You Close

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
kaho kabeer jaa kai mastak bhaag.
Says Kabir, one who has such destiny inscribed upon her forehead
ਸਭ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ॥੩॥੨੧॥
sabh parhar taa ka-o milai suhaag. ||3||21||
- her Husband Lord turns all others away, and meets with her. ||3||21||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Says Kabir: one soul carries this blessing, written on her forehead. For her, the Beloved sets all others aside. She is drawn close, and united with the Beloved she longed for.

When the heart carries this longing, everything else falls away and the Beloved draws it close.
The deeper layer

Kabir ends with a homecoming: the soul who carries this blessing is brought close to the Beloved.

The close uses the bride picture again. Kaho kabeer jaa kai mastak bhaag — says Kabir, the one with bhaag on her forehead. Bhaag means a blessing, something written for you. Here it is best heard as a blessing carried in the heart, not a fixed fate. Grace stays open to everyone.

Sabh parhar taa ka-o milai suhaag — setting all else aside, the Beloved comes to meet her. Suhaag is the beloved husband, the joy of being together.

The feeling is longing fulfilled. Think of a traveler who finally walks through the front door of home.

A Question to Sit With

What falls quietly away when your heart is fully turned toward what it loves most?
