Steady Remembrance Brings the Cool Water Up

ਚੇਤਤ ਚੇਤਤ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਨੀਰੁ ॥
chaytat chaytat niksi-o neer.
By constant contemplation and awareness, the water is brought forth.
ਸੋ ਜਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਕਥਤ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥੩॥੨੪॥
so jal nirmal kathat kabeer. ||3||24||
That water is immaculate and pure, says Kabir. ||3||24||

In plain words

Keep remembering, keep turning toward the One, and the water rises up to meet you. It is clear and pure, cooling every thirst, says Kabir.

Steady remembrance brings the cool, clear water rising up to meet you.
The deeper layer

Keep remembering the One, and the cool water rises up.

Chaytat chaytat niksi-o neer — by remembering and remembering, the water comes up. So jal nirmal kathat kabeer — Kabir says, that water is nirmal, clean and pure.

This is Naam simran, remembering the Name of the One again and again. It uncovers the relief that was always near. Think of digging a well. You keep digging, steady and patient, and one day cool water rises to meet you. Remembering is the very thing that brings the water up.

A Question to Sit With

What quiet practice helps a calm, clear feeling rise up in you?
