Verse 3 of 4

The Mind Is Not the Enemy; It Needs to Come Home

ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
man antar bolai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone speaks through the mind.
ਮਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
man maaray bin bhagat na ho-ee. ||2||
Without killing the mind, devotional worship is not performed. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Everyone thinks and speaks through the mind — it is how we meet the world. And yet without the mind settling, real love of the One does not fully open. The mind is not the enemy; it just needs to come home.

The mind is not the enemy — it just needs to settle and come home so love can open.
The deeper layer

Man antar bolai sabh ko-ee — everyone acts through the mind; man maaray bin bhagat na ho-ee — without the mind being "conquered," devotion is incomplete. We render maaray not as killing but as the mind settling / coming home — the same jeevat mooaa spirit: the restless self quieting so love can flower. The mind is a companion to befriend, not an enemy to destroy.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your busy mind settle so that kindness and love come through more easily?
