The Best Riders Carry the Heart, Not the Letter

Says Kabir, those who remain detached from the Vedas, the Koran and the Bible are the best riders. ||3||31||

In plain words

Says Kabir: the finest riders of all

are the ones who ride free. They are not tied down to the words of the books. They carry the heart of every teaching with them.

The best riders carry the heart of every teaching without being trapped by the letter.
The deeper layer

Kabir says the best riders carry the heart of the holy books, not just their words.

Bayd katayb means the Vedas and the other holy books. The best riders stay free of them. That means not clinging to the exact words of any one book, while still keeping the love that all the books point toward.

Katayb is a wide word for holy books. It is not the name of just one faith's scripture. Think of a recipe. The best cooks know it well, but what they really care about is the good meal it leads to.

So the best rider is caught in no cage, and belongs to the whole truth at once.

A Question to Sit With

How can you honor a teaching's heart without getting stuck on only its words?
