ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਮਹਾਪੁਰਖ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥
satgur sayveh say mahaa purakh sansaaray.
Those who serve the True Guru are the greatest people of the world.
ਆਪਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
aap uDhray kul sagal nistaaray.
They save themselves, and they redeem all their generations as well.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
har kaa naam rakheh ur Dhaaray.
They keep the Name of the Lord clasped tightly to their hearts.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਭਉਜਲ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
naam ratay bha-ojal utreh paaray. ||2||
Attuned to the Naam, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

Those who serve the true teacher are the greatest people in the world. They save themselves and lift their whole family line. They hold the Name tight against their hearts and cross the terrifying ocean.
The greatest people are the servants -- and their light lifts whole families.
