Search as Wide as You Like; Nothing Equals the One

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਖੋਜਉ ਅਸਮਾਨ ॥
kaho kabeer khoja-o asmaan.
Says Kabir, I have searched the skies,
ਰਾਮ ਸਮਾਨ ਨ ਦੇਖਉ ਆਨ ॥੨॥੩੪॥
raam samaan na daykh-a-u aan. ||2||34||
and have not seen another, equal to the Lord. ||2||34||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Says Kabir: I've searched the whole wide sky, high and far.

And I have never found anything, anywhere, that equals the Beloved.

Search as wide as you like — nothing equals the One.
The deeper layer

Search as far as you like, and nothing equals the One.

The end answers the ache. Kaho kabeer khoja-o asmaan — Kabir says, I have searched the skies. Raam samaan na daykh-a-u aan — I have not seen anything else equal to the One.

This is not the end of a lecture. It is the report of an honest seeker who looked and looked.

Think of searching every shop in town for a better friend than your best friend, and coming home knowing there is none. Kabir found only one thing worth leaning on.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you searched hard for and finally realized nothing else could replace?
