Verse 3 of 3

We All Share the Same Passing Nature

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
kahat kabeer sunhu man mayray.
Says Kabir, listen, O my mind:
ਇਹੀ ਹਵਾਲ ਹੋਹਿਗੇ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੨॥੩੫॥
ihee havaal hohigay tayray. ||2||35||
this may be your fate as well! ||2||35||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Says Kabir: listen, dear mind of mine —

this is how it goes for all of us; so choose now what you build your life on.

We all share the same passing nature — so build your life on what endures.
The deeper layer

Kabir addresses his own mind kindly ("dear mind of mine") — a gentle self-talk, not a scolding. The reminder that we all share the same passing nature isn't a threat; it's a leveling truth that frees us to invest in what endures, starting today.

A Question to Sit With

Knowing that everyone's outside things fade, what would you rather grow on the inside?
