Who You Really Are Is Found Within

ਕਉਨ ਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਕਉਨ ਕੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
ka-un ko purakh ka-un kee naaree.
Whose husband is he? Whose wife is she?
ਇਆ ਤਤ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
i-aa tat layho sareer bichaaree. ||2||
Contemplate this reality within your body. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whose husband is he? Whose wife is she?

Look closely, right inside your own being, for what's really true.

The answer to who you really are is found by looking within.
The deeper layer

Kabir circles back to the riddle-questions and then tells you where to find the answer: not in books, but within your own body and being (sareer bichaaree). The mystery of who we really are is discovered by looking inward, quietly and honestly.

A Question to Sit With

When you get very quiet inside, what do you notice about who you are?
