Verse 5 of 5

Grace Plants the Devotion; He Cherishes the Lowly

apnee bhagat aap hee darirhaa-ee.
He Himself has implanted His devotional worship within me.
poorab likhat mili-aa mayray bhaa-ee.
By pre-ordained destiny, one meets Him, O my Siblings of Destiny.
jis kirpaa karay tis pooran saaj.
When He grants His Grace, one is perfectly fulfilled.

Kabir's Lord and Master is the Cherisher of the poor. ||4||40||

In plain words

The Beloved planted this very devotion inside me — it was the One's own doing.

By a love written long before, I met the One, dear friends.

Whoever receives that grace is made whole and complete.

Kabir's Beloved is the one who cherishes the poor and the lowly.

Grace plants the devotion — and the Beloved especially cherishes the lowly.
The deeper layer

The close gives all the credit to grace. Even Kabir's devotion was planted by the One; the meeting came by poorab likhat, what was "written long before" — read here as grace received, not a debt earned. And the final, tender note: the Beloved is gareeb nivaaj — the cherisher of the poor. The One leans toward the humble and the overlooked.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think the deepest love so often reaches toward those the world overlooks?
