In plain words

Our time in this life is a little like a young person's time in their childhood home — precious, and shorter than it feels.

It is easy to forget how quickly it passes and to sleepwalk through it. The invitation is simply to wake up and treasure the days we have.

Our time here is short and precious — the loving thing is to wake up and treasure it.
The deeper layer

Kabir uses a wedding metaphor common in Gurbani: the soul is a bride who spends a short time in her parents' home before moving to her husband's. In our voice we keep the tender meaning — life is brief and precious — while removing any sense of blame in the words "blind, foolish, ignorant." Those become simply the gentle nudge: it is easy to sleepwalk; the loving thing is to wake up and cherish the time.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small part of today you could treasure a little more, knowing it will not come again?
