The Joyful Day Has Come; Prepare Your Heart Now

ਕਹੁ ਡਡੀਆ ਬਾਧੈ ਧਨ ਖੜੀ ॥
kaho dadee-aa baaDhai Dhan kharhee.
Tell me, why is the bride wearing her ordinary clothes?
ਪਾਹੂ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਮੁਕਲਾਊ ਆਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paahoo ghar aa-ay muklaa-oo aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The guests have arrived at her home, and her Husband has come to take her away. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

The moment has arrived — the guests are here, and it is time to get ready.

Why wait in everyday clothes when the great day has come? The invitation is to prepare your heart now, not later — the Beloved has come to bring you home.

The joyful day has come — prepare your heart now, not later.
The deeper layer

This is the Rahao, built on the wedding image: the bride should be dressed and ready, but the day has come and found her unprepared. Kabir turns this into loving urgency — not fear, but "get ready, the joyful day is here." The "Husband coming to take her home" is the reunion of the soul with the One; we keep it warm and welcoming, an invitation rather than a summons.

A Question to Sit With

If something wonderful were coming today, how would you get your heart ready for it?
