The One Is Both the Rain and the Waiting Earth

mehlaa 3 ga-orhee bairaagan.
Third Mehl, Gauree Bairaagan:
jaisee Dhartee oopar mayghulaa barsat hai ki-aa Dhartee maDhay paanee naahee.
The clouds pour their rain down upon the earth, but isn't there water within the earth as well?
jaisay Dhartee maDhay paanee pargaasi-aa bin pagaa varsat firaa-ee. ||1||
Water is contained within the earth; without feet, the clouds run around and let down their rain. ||1||

In plain words

The clouds pour their rain down onto the earth -- but isn't there already water hidden inside the earth? The water is in the ground too. And the clouds, with no feet at all, go running across the sky and let down their rain.

The same water falls as rain and waits in the earth -- the One is both above and within.
The deeper layer

A breathtaking non-dual image. The divine is both the rain that falls from above and the water already within the earth -- one water, two seeming sources (kudrat: the One dwelling within creation). The footless clouds that "run" point to the One's effortless, wondrous workings.

A Question to Sit With

Can something be both all around you and deep inside you at once? What?
