Climb Aboard and the Crossing Carries Itself

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਵੈ ॥
jaa tis bhaavai taa hukam manaavai.
When it is pleasing to Him, then He inspires us to obey the Hukam of His Command.
ਇਸ ਬੇੜੇ ਕਉ ਪਾਰਿ ਲਘਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
is bayrhay ka-o paar laghaavai. ||2||
He causes this boat to cross over. ||2||

In plain words

When the time is right, the One awakens in us the wish to move with the flow of life.

And that same One rows our boat safely across.

You climb aboard and trust — the crossing itself is carried by something larger.
The deeper layer

This one says: climb aboard and trust, and the crossing is carried by something bigger than you.

Jaa tis bhaavai taa hukam manaavai — when it pleases the One, the One helps us walk with the hukam. Hukam is the flow of existence, the way things really are. It is not an order shouted from above. It is a current we are gently brought in tune with.

Is bayrhay ka-o paar laghaavai — and the One carries this boat across. Grace does the carrying. Kabir takes away the worried effort.

Think of a small child asleep in the back seat on a long drive home. They did not have to steer. Your part is to climb aboard and trust. The crossing is held by something larger than your strength.

A Question to Sit With

When has help arrived at just the right time, so you didn't have to do it all alone?
