The self-willed manmukhs do their deeds in ego; they receive their just rewards. ||1||

The whole world is held under death's power, tied down by its love of division. Living for the ego, people act, and they get back exactly what they earned.
A world ruled by ego and division stays in death's grip, reaping what it sows.
The world is in death's grip because of duality. The self-facing person acts from ego and reaps accordingly (Gurmukh/Manmukh). The frame is sober but just: you receive what you sow.
