Verse 4 of 5

Know Your Own Self and the Name Settles In

gurmukh aap pachhaani-aa har naam vasi-aa man aa-ay.
The Gurmukh understands his own self. The Lord's Name comes to dwell within the mind.
an-din bhagtee rati-aa har naamay sukh samaa-ay. ||3||
Imbued with devotion to the Lord's Name, night and day, he merges in peace. ||3||

In plain words

The one turned toward the teaching understands their own self, and the Name comes to live in the mind. Soaked in love for the Name, day and night, they melt into peace.

Know your own self, and the Name comes to live in you, settling you into peace.
The deeper layer

The bright contrast: self-understanding (cf. the living-liberated) brings the Name to dwell within, and constant devotion yields effortless peace (Gurmukh). Self-knowledge and the indwelling Name are the same event.

A Question to Sit With

What have you learned about yourself that brought you peace rather than worry?
