Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In that green forest where the Beloved delights the heart, my mind is completely won over.
Whatever name the world gives You, You are my One — and I am simply Kabir, Yours.
By whatever name we call the Beloved, the Beloved is One.
Bindraaban man haran manohar krisan charaavat gaa-oo — in Brindaaban, where Krishna grazes his cows, my mind is won over. Kabir calls up the Krishna of Brindaaban with love. Then he does something quietly bold. Jaa kaa thaakur tuhee saaringDhar — You, the Archer of the universe, are my Lord and Master.
Seen through the lens of Oneness, the many beautiful names and forms of devotion all point to the one Reality. That honors the Hindu picture while resting in the One. Think of a mother whose children call her Mom, Mama, Maa and Ammi. Many names, one person.
Then Kabir names himself. Mohi kabeeraa naa-oo — my name is Kabir. He was a weaver. He sets his own plain name right beside the Divine, with quiet dignity. He claims his belonging without any need to apologize.
People call the same One by many names. Why do you think that is?
