In plain words

Craving, anger, and the pull of the passing show can leave a heart worn out and lost.

Says Kabir: don't ever let go of the One, your true King — the Highest of the high, higher than everything.

When the inner storms scatter you, hold fast to the One — the Highest of the high.
The deeper layer

When inner storms toss you about, hold on tight to the One, the highest of all.

Kabir names the inner storms. Kaam is craving. Krodh is anger. Maya is the passing show that keeps pulling at us. I-aa bidh jagat bigootaa — in this way the world is worn out and lost.

These are not crimes to be ashamed of. They are like illnesses that tire us and scatter us. They are things to heal and steady.

The cure is simple and firm. Raajaa raam na chhoda-o — do not let go of the One, your true King. The One is sagal ooch tay oochaa, higher than everything.

Think of a boat in a storm. It drops its anchor deep and holds. When small storms toss you, anchor to the highest thing.

Kabir was a weaver, a humble worker. He crowns the One as his only true King. Quietly, that puts every earthly throne on the same level.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel a storm of anger or wanting inside, what's one steady thing you can hold onto?
