Keep Loving the One Through Sweet Times and Hard

ਬੰਦੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਇਕਤੀਆਰ ॥
banday bandagee iktee-aar.
O human being, embrace the Lord's meditation,
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰੋਸੁ ਧਰਉ ਕਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saahib ros Dhara-o ke pi-aar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
whether your Lord and Master is angry with you or in love with you. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O human being, hold on to the loving remembrance of the One —

whether life feels sweet and close, or hard and far. Keep it either way.

Keep loving the One through the sweet times and the hard times alike.
The deeper layer

The Rahao carries an unusually mature teaching: saahib ros dhara-o ke pi-aar — stay devoted "whether the Beloved seems angry or in love." In our lens this isn't about a moody God; it's about staying steady through life's sweet and hard seasons alike — love that doesn't switch off when things stop feeling easy. This is the even-mindedness of sahaj, and bandagee — humble, loving remembrance — is what holds steady through both.

A Question to Sit With

Is it easy to stay loving toward someone only on good days? How do you hold on through the hard ones?
