Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One can make even a stone float upon the water.

So how could a humble heart calling on the Beloved's Name not be carried safely across too?

If the One can float a stone, no sincere heart is ever left behind.
The deeper layer

If the One can make a stone float, then surely a heart that calls the Name will be carried across too.

This song is by Bhagat Naam Dayv, a saint whose words are in the Guru Granth Sahib. The Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad, holds the whole idea.

Dayvaa paahan taaree-alay — the One makes even stones float. Raam kahat jan kas na taray — so how could a humble person who calls the Name not float across too?

Stones sink. Everyone knows that. So a floating stone is the impossible, done. If the One can do that, then a person who keeps the Name in their heart will surely be carried across life's waters.

The Naam, the Name, is not a magic word. It means keeping the living One present in your heart.

Picture a kid on a swim team who is scared to jump in, and a coach who says, "I've taught boulders to float. You'll be fine." Naam Dayv sings with that kind of joyful, trusting certainty. Grace is that generous.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you trust that you'll be okay, even when the way ahead looks hard?
