Set Down Your Tangles and Nothing Can Weigh You

The club of the Messenger of Death shall not strike me, since I have cast off all entanglements. ||3||

In plain words

To all who tally up this world and the next: write down whatever you like about me — it's fine.

Nothing can hold me now, for I have set down every tangle and burden that once weighed me.

When you set down your inner tangles, nothing can weigh on you or make you afraid.
The deeper layer

This pauri is about total freedom. Ravidas cheerfully tells the cosmic "accountants" — the record-keepers people imagined tallying every deed — write whatever you want; it doesn't trouble me. Why so carefree? Because he has "cast off all entanglements" (sarab janjaal) — the knots of craving and fear that used to bind him. The original mentions the "club of Death's messenger"; handled gently here, the meaning is simply that nothing can strike or bind a free heart anymore. Freedom from inner tangles is freedom from fear itself.

A Question to Sit With

What's one "tangle" — a worry or a wanting — you'd feel lighter setting down?
