From the true teacher I received wisdom, and now I hold the One's essence in mind. My clouded thinking was lit up by the Name. The old split between spirit and matter dissolved, and the darkness lifted. Those whose destiny is written this way come to love the Name.
This one says that once the Name lights up the mind, the old split between spirit and the world falls away.
Guru Amar Das names two ideas. Siv is Shiva, and sakat is Shakti. People often explained them as spirit and matter: the aware part of life, and the stuff of nature. Many thought of them as two separate things. Siv sakat mitaa-ee-aa chookaa anDhi-aaraa — the line between Shiva and Shakti is wiped away, and the darkness is gone.
Think of rain falling from the sky and water hidden in the ground. They have two names, but it is one water. Gurbani uses that same picture elsewhere.
Seeing the world as split in two is itself the darkness. The Name, remembering the One, brings the light. Waking up means that wall in the mind comes down.
