Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I sing the One's praises and listen to them every day, and the One has set me free. From the teacher I received the One's essence, and my mind and body are soaked in it. Blessed, blessed is the teacher who gave me this love. Through the teacher I found the One -- and made the One my teacher.
This one says the Guru leads you to the One, and then the One becomes your teacher.
It is a verse of joy. Singing the One's praises and listening to them every day brings freedom. Har ras gur tay paa-i-aa — the sweet taste of the One came through the Guru. It soaks the mind and body, the way rain soaks dry ground.
Then comes a beautiful turn. Jis gur tay har paa-i-aa so gur ham keenee — through the Guru I found the One, and the One I made my Guru. The line between the teacher and the One melts away. Think of a teacher who walks you to the library for the first time. Soon the books themselves are teaching you. The teacher leads to the One, and the One becomes the teacher.
Has a teacher ever pointed you to something that became your own deepest guide?
