Verse 4 of 5

Nearness to His Lovers Is Great Good Fortune

jo har kee har kathaa sunaavai.
One who chants the Speech of the Lord
so jan hamrai man chit bhaavai.
- that humble servant is pleasing to my conscious mind.
jan pag rayn vadbhaagee paavai. ||3||
Those who are blessed with great good fortune obtain the dust of the feet of the humble. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever speaks the One's word is dear to my heart. And it is great good fortune to receive even the dust of such humble people's feet.

Nearness to those who love the One is itself great good fortune.
The deeper layer

Devotion to the devotees: those who chant are pleasing, and the dust of their feet is great fortune (cf. Nanak as dust of the feet). Ram Das locates grace in nearness to the realized, not in solitary effort.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company makes you want to be better? What is it about them?
