Singing His Praise Feels Like a Reunion

ji-o mil bachhray ga-oo pareet lagaavai.
As the cow shows her love to her strayed calf when she finds it,
kaaman pareet jaa pir ghar aavai.
and as the bride shows her love for her husband when he returns home,
har jan pareet jaa har jas gaavai. ||2||
so does the Lord's humble servant love to sing the Praises of the Lord. ||2||

In plain words

Like a cow finding her lost calf. Like a bride whose husband has come home at last.

That is how the One's servant loves to sing its praises.

Singing the One's praises feels like a reunion -- the joy of finding what you missed.
The deeper layer

Singing the One's praise feels like a joyful reunion.

Here are two more pictures of love found again. A cow finds her lost calf. A bride welcomes her husband home. Gurbani often pictures the soul as a bride waiting for her Beloved.

The servant loves to sing har jas, the praise of the One, in just this way. It is the joy of being together again after being apart. Think of running to hug someone at the airport after a long trip.

So singing is not a chore. It is what spills out of a heart that has found what it was missing.

A Question to Sit With

What reunion has filled you with the most joy?
