Serving the Teacher Frees Others Alongside You

Gauree Gwaarayree, Fourth Mehl:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਬਣੀ ॥

Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding;

meeting Him, I meditate on the Name of the Lord, the Lord Master.
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਛੂਟੀ ਘਣੀ ॥੧॥

So many are emancipated along with those who meditate on the Lord. ||1||

In plain words

Serving the true teacher bears real fruit. Meeting the teacher, I keep the One's name in mind. And many others are set free right alongside those who do.

Serving the teacher bears fruit -- and frees others right alongside you.
The deeper layer

Service of the Guru is fruitful, and -- a recurring Mehl 4 note -- the realized one carries many others to freedom (cf. saving generations). Liberation is contagious and communal.

A Question to Sit With

How might your own growth quietly help the people around you?
