Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Let no one imagine they have any power of their own. Everyone acts as the One moves them. Aging, death, fever, poison, snakes -- all of it is in the One's hands, and nothing can touch you without its order. So keep the One's name in mind; it will carry you through in the end.
This one says that nothing happens outside the One's order.
bhaa-ee mat ko-ee jaanhu kisee kai kichh haath hai — brothers and sisters, do not think anyone holds power of their own. Everyone acts as the One moves them. This is Hukam, the flow of existence, the One's order that runs through everything.
The verse names the hard things: growing old, dying, fever, poison, snakes. All of them are in the One's hands. None of them can touch anyone without that order.
This is not saying "just give up." It is the same deep safety as the verses before it. Even hard days stay inside the care of the One who loves you. That is trust while life is fragile. It is not a promise that nothing hard will ever happen.
Think of a small child in a storm, held in a parent's arms. The thunder is still loud. But the child is held.
So what do we do? We remember. Guru Ram Das says to keep the Name in mind every day. The Name is what carries us through in the end.
Does it feel frightening or reassuring that so much is beyond our control? Why?
