The One makes jewels out of dust. It kept you safe in the womb. It has given you name and honor. So keep it in mind, all day and all night.
The One makes jewels out of dust and kept you safe before you were born -- so remember it always.
Guru Arjan's gratitude-hymn: the One makes jewels from dust (transforms the worthless to precious -- cf. the worm raised up), preserved you in the womb, gave you honor. The recital of unearned gifts leads naturally to constant remembrance. Gratitude is the engine of devotion.
A Question to Sit With
What unearned gift were you given before you could ever do anything to deserve it?
