Verse 3 of 5

He Woke Me and Gave Me the Nine Treasures

jin keetaa moorh tay baktaa.
He transformed me, the fool, into a fine speaker,
jin keetaa baysurat tay surtaa.
and He made the unconscious become conscious;
jis parsaad navai niDh paa-ee.
by His Grace, I have obtained the nine treasures.
so parabh man tay bisrat naahee. ||2||
May I never forget that God from my mind. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One turned me, a fool, into someone who could speak well; it woke me when I was asleep inside; by grace, I received the nine treasures. May I never forget that One.

The One woke me, gave me words and all nine treasures -- may I never forget it.
The deeper layer

The transformation theme continues: fool to speaker, unconscious to conscious (the awakening, cf. the One who wakes us), nine treasures by grace (Gurprasad). Every change is credited to the One. The prayer: never forget.

A Question to Sit With

What change in yourself do you know you didn't make entirely on your own?
