All the Treasures Are Within; Why Search Outside?

kar keertan man seetal bha-ay.
Singing the Kirtan of His Praises, my mind has become peaceful;
janam janam kay kilvikh ga-ay.
the sins of countless incarnations have been washed away.
sarab niDhaan paykhay man maahi.
I have seen all the treasures within my own mind;
ab dhoodhan kaahay ka-o jaahi. ||2||
why should I now go out searching for them? ||2||

In plain words

Singing the One's praises, my mind grew peaceful, and the wrongs of countless lives were washed away. I have seen all the treasures right within my own mind -- so why would I go searching outside?

All the treasures are within your own mind -- why search outside for them?
The deeper layer

The interior turn at its clearest (cf. the jewel within; search your own heart): all the treasures are within the mind; why search outside? Singing brings peace and washes the karma of countless lives (Har Ras). Commentators read the line as meaning that searching outside was the long way round to what was already within.

A Question to Sit With

What have you searched for "out there" that might be inside you already?
