Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
If it pleases You, I sing the sacred words. If it pleases You, I speak what's true.
If it pleases You, the teaching pours its kindness over me. Every bit of peace I've ever known comes from that flow of grace.
When we line up with what pleases the One, every peace we have known flows in.
One phrase runs through every line: tudh bhaavai, "if it pleases You." Tudh bhaavai taa gaavaa banee — if it pleases You, I sing the banee, the sacred Word. Tudh bhaavai taa sach vakhaanee — if it pleases You, I speak sach, the truth. If it pleases You, the satgur, the True Guru, shows mercy.
Then the close. Sarab sukhaa parabh tayree da-i-aa — all peace comes from Your kindness, God.
"If it pleases You" is Hukam, the flow of existence, spoken in the first person. It means moving with the flow rather than trying to boss it around. Saying it again and again makes letting go feel like relief, not like giving up. Think of finally putting down a heavy backpack you never needed to carry.
Can you name a moment of peace that just arrived, rather than one you built?
