Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
They rest their whole soul on the One, as if leaning on the strongest support there is. They see only the One, and move gently with the flow.
For them there's really just one thing worth doing, one purpose — they can't imagine anything apart from the formless Oneness that holds it all.
This one says a whole life can gather around one true thing.
Charan kamal aatam aaDhaar — the One's lotus feet are the soul's support. "Lotus feet" is a loving way to speak of the One's presence. Ayk nihaarahi aagi-aakaar — they see only the One and live in tune with the One's aagi-aa, the order of things. Think of it as the flow of life, more than a list of commands.
Ayko banaj ayko bi-uhaaree — one trade, one line of work. Avar na jaaneh bin nirankaaree — they know nothing apart from nirankaar, the Formless One, who has no shape at all.
Think of a compass needle. Shake it and it swings, but it always settles back to north. The verse pictures a whole life gathered to one quiet point.
If you had to pick one thing that matters most to you, what would gather everything else around it?
