This pull toward more and more reaches us in so many different disguises.
But the true-hearted live sheltered under the One's care — and there they stay steady, whatever comes.
This is the pause line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad.
Maa-i-aa bi-aapat baho parkaaree: Maya, the restless pull of the world, reaches us in so many ways. Sant jeeveh parabh ot tumaaree: but the sant, the true-hearted, live under Your ot, Your shelter.
This line is the hinge. The rest of the shabad lists the many disguises the restlessness wears. And here is the one thing that ends it: living sheltered in the One. You do not have to fight each disguise one by one. Think of rain. You could try to dodge every drop, or you could stand under a strong roof. The true-hearted stand where the rain cannot reach.
When something keeps bothering you in new forms, what's a steady place you can stand?
